In order to power your Honeywell Wi-Fi smart thermostat (RTH9580WF), your system must contain a c-wire. Use the chart below to confirm that your system meets the compatibility requirements. This chart will determine compatibility with most systems, but as wiring systems vary from home to home, there may be some exceptions.

Does your current thermostat have 110V or higher written on it? If yes this system is compatible — continue to next question. Do you have thick wires that are connected using wire nuts? If yes — your system is not compatible. If no — continue to the next question. Do you have a wire connected to terminal labeled “C”? If yes — your system is compatible. If no move the next question. Do you have an extra wire that is not connected to any terminal on the thermostat wall plate? Or — if no — do you have a wire connected to terminal labeled “G”? If yes to either of these questions, this thermostat may be compatible with your system.

To help you know for sure if your system will work with the Wi-Fi thermostat, please send us a picture of your current thermostat wiring. Take a picture of your current wall plate with wires connected to the lettered terminals.

Could be better How many times have you said this, “I should have read the reviews first”? This is definitely one of those cases. I am writing this review the first day I finally got it all working.I had the same problems/concerns as others:1. No C wire. I was able to follow a video online at wifithermostat.com on how to workaround/fix this issue. Of course my thermostat was not listed, but I selected another and found the Youtube videos. If you have an extra wire, there is a video on “Substitute extra wire for C” at […] or “Substitute G wire for C” at […]2. My wi-fi would not connect, kept getting the E02 error. I changed the security settings to WPA2 as suggested, in case the problem was because my wireless was running in mixed mode. That did not work. I own a computer company so I was eventually able to figure out what the problem was without calling anyone. My wireless network had a special character “&” which once removed allowed the Wi-Fi to…

Love this thermostat! I had looked at the Nest thermostat initially but then started reading the reviews on this one and took a chance. First of all the price was much more reasonable than the Nest and it has many of the same features. It has a large easy to read display and programming is very easy.Installation was very easy and even includes little labels to put on the existing wires so you know exactly where to hook them up to the new one.Set up was a little bit of trial and error, but no more difficult than setting up a wireless router. At one point when I got stuck I just needed to reset power and then my device connected no problem.I can connect with my laptop as well as through the app on my iPhone, which is an awesome feature. You can check the settings or adjust the schedule from anywhere. It also has a learning feature that adjusts the time it turns on to reach the set-point based on how efficient your HVAC unit works. One last thing…
