Just turn it up and down. The Nest learning thermostat learns the temperatures you like and creates a custom schedule for your home. Nest automatically turns itself down after you leave so you’re not heating or cooling an empty home. You can control it from anywhere using your phone, tablet, or laptop. And energy history lets you see how much energy you use and why. In independent studies, Nest saved an average of 10-12% on heating bills and 15% on cooling bills. That means it can pay for itself in under two years.

Product Features

  • Auto schedule. No more programming. With auto-schedule, Nest learns from you and programs itself
  • Auto-away. Don’t heat or cool an empty home. Auto-away adjusts the temperature after you leave
  • Remote control. With the Nest app, you can change the temperature, check energy history and get an alert if your home is too hot or cold

Awesome As Expected Awesome. One word to sum it up. I have had a 2nd generation Nest since fall 2012. It has worked flawless since it has been installed. Upgrading from a 2nd gen Nest… Coming from the Nest 2nd generation (and the 1st generation prior to that), the biggest improvements with the 3rd generation seem to be the larger display and the farsight wakeup. The new display is significantly larger than the 2nd generation’s display. I control my Nests (I have two in the house) both from the Nest unit itself as well as the iPhone app.

The 3rd Generation Nest Learning Thermostat is the best version yet! The 3rd generation Nest is smaller, sleeker, and sexier than its predecessors but only introduces a minor set of new features. Though having said that, the 3rd generation Nest is an improvement over its predecessors. The new “farsight” feature does improve the legibility of the face from a distance which is nice to see as you walk into the room what the current temperature is. Nest upgraded from a 1.75″ 320×320 display to a 2.08″ 480×480 display, which it notes is now 229PPI…
